A popular downtown restaurant was greatly expanded and renovated into one of the largest-surface restaurant/bar complex in the city core, with room for 550 people and an outdoor terrace for 200 customers. The expansion was two-fold: the entire building was expanded northwards with a new construction, and laterally into the entire ground floor of an existing 100-year old 3-storey building.
Extremely complicated shoring and underpinning of the existing building foundations and of neighboring buildings was required to permit the construction of the new building extension. The original wood structure of the existing building was almost entirely replaced from within the existing space, in order to remove load-bearing walls throughout the space to create open areas.
